The brackets were colored grey, as opposed to the G models which were painted gold. If the hammers are blocking, it's likely they have the "growing bracket syndrome".
Young chang piano age serial number serial number#
On the used market, check them carefully, especially if the serial number indicates the manufacture date is mid to late '80's and mid '90's.

While we were a dealer, this was the progression that I remember. I have not worked for a YC dealer for about 10 years, so much may have changed in the meantime. Not so well in schools without periodic scrutiny, especially the Chinese models. For an inexpensive piano, they are good enough for many years in the home environment. They also produced stencil pianos for some other brand names like Wurlitzer. They figure that a complete regulation was going to be needed in course of time anyway, so they won't pay for a complete job. The company used to offer technicians around $200 to replace the brackets and perform a rudimentary regulation to make the piano playable again. The regulation of the original action goes completely awry. So, for thousands of customers, their pianos will likely someday become unplayable unless the brackets are replaced. But the company did not know about the problem for some time, and understandably did not inform the owners of the defective instruments. Some time in the late '80's, a subcontractor produced the action brackets for their grand models, which by fate were prone to crystalize and change dimension, thus needing replacement. Samick Music I believe now owns the Pramberger line. They are very good quality overall, with the lower price point made in Korea. Later, Joseph Pramberger did consultation and redesign of their pianos, and were branded Pramberger. They also produced the Weber brand, with many upgrades, and a higher price point. They actually were producing Yamahas in Korea, but later split off to become Young Chang. They are decent pianos, and the earliest models were Yamaha knock-offs. The G models were made in Korea, with a better build quality. Model numbers for the Chinese versions started with T, like TG-157. The Chinese models were initially very poor, and after a short while they changed the name. They are made in Korea, though some models are also made in China. If anyone has the direct phone number or email of the technical person in charge, I'd be very appreciative. Now I'm hearing that they are no longer available, period. Just 2 months ago, they sent me a set for a Wurlitzer (by YC): just had to pay shipping.ĭear List, What is the status with Young Chang providing action brackets for the correction of the expanding action issues?
